Today, during a debate on the Report of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry in the House of Commons, John Baron MP took the opportunity to highlight the need for balance in its assessment.

In questioning the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, John said:

“Having seen first-hand the sacrifice of the security forces, and seen the excellent work they did in preventing a very difficult situation from getting worse, will my Right Honourable Friend do what he can to prevent this report from being used by one side against the other, as it is important we now look to the future and continue the progress that has been made.”

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland agreed with John and confirmed the important role the Armed Forces had played in the Peace Process.

John said afterwards:

“We must never forget the sacrifices made by the Security Forces. There were innocent victims on both sides, and that is why a balanced view must be taken of this Report.”
