MP says Parliamentarians must respect referendum result

Today the Supreme Court upheld the High Court ruling that the Government must hold a Parliamentary vote on the decision to invoke Article 50.

John said,

“Now that the Supreme Court has also ruled that legislation is required, it is essential that Parliamentarians do not frustrate the clearly-expressed will of the British people to leave the European Union. Peers in particular should not hinder the decision made by over 17 million people on 23rd June.”

“I certainly support the Government’s timetable for triggering Article 50, and believe this will happen by the end of March as expected. This will set in train our departure from the EU within two years.”
