The Royal British Legion’s latest fundraising initiative, March For Honour kicks off today [4th November 2010], and will see Armed Forces personnel speed-march nearly 1000 miles to raise £1 million for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Teams from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines will begin the march in four different locations in the UK, uniting in Wootton Bassett before marching into London to deliver the Book of Remembrance to The Festival of Remembrance at The Royal Albert Hall on Remembrance Day. This will all be done over the course of 7 days, with team members in military uniform and carrying in excess of 40 pounds.

John Baron MP has signed Early Day Motion 889 to support and help raise the profile of the march.

John said:

“I wish the troops well in their endeavour. I’ve seen the RBL’s excellent work first hand in helping troops and their families, and they deserve our fullest support.”

March For Honour creator, Lance Corporal Ram Patten said:

“Having served in Afghanistan, I truly appreciate the support the Legion provided to me and my family. The March provides an opportunity to thank The Royal British Legion, raise vital funds and make the public aware of the brilliant work they do.”
