MP looks forward to poll on 8th June

Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning that there will be a General Election on 8th June 2017, John said,

“I look forward to the election campaign, and to making the case for a fairer and more enterprising nation outside the EU. A Conservative victory would convey greater strength to negotiate a better EU deal for Britain, whilst building on the strong economy, low taxes, and compassionate policies we have put in place since 2010.”

“To give our negotiations the best possible chance, we need to clear the decks at Westminster. Political parties here are less accepting of the referendum result than the country as a whole. The Liberals would hold another referendum, Labour have made it clear that they will oppose practically any negotiated deal, whilst the SNP obsess about independence. Meanwhile, the vociferous minority of Conservative MPs who oppose the Prime Minister would have to accept her approach.”

“This General Election is an opportunity for the British people to make it clear they support Theresa May’s approach to the Brexit negotiations – it’s time we got on with it.”
