MP says EU trade talks should start as soon as possible
Responding to reports that the Government is prepared to increase its financial offer so that the EU begins formal trade negotiations, John said,
“All negotiations are a matter of give and take, and the Brexit negotiations are no different. However, as both sides agreed at the outset, ‘nothing is agreed until everything is agreed’. This is why any concern regarding an agreement to increase the offer is misplaced.”
“Our eventual ‘bill’ can not be settled upon until we know what our final exit deal looks like. This is why it is important we begin formal trade negotiations as soon as possible, as only at the end of the process can both sides make a proper assessment.”
