John Baron MP urges Prime Minister to stand up to remain-dominated Parliament

MP: Hold firm on referendum result

Today the House of Commons will vote on a set of amendments, one of which if successful will wrest control of Parliamentary business from the Government and pave the way for so-called ‘indicative votes’, which could include revoking Article 50, membership of a customs union, a second referendum, or a number of other options. John will be voting against this amendment and supporting any amendments that honour the referendum result.

John said,

“This is crunch time in the Brexit process. Win or lose, I urge the Prime Minister to stand up to our remain-dominated Parliament and keep faith with the majority of the British electorate who voted to leave in June 2016. By triggering Article 50, the one Brexit option Parliamentarians have unequivocally voted for – with a majority of 384 – is to leave at the end of the process, with or without a deal. This must be respected.”

“The Prime Minister should hold firm against the remainers, both within the Government and in Parliament, who wish to blunt Brexit or even to stop it altogether. We need to show the British people that the Government and Prime Minister are keeping to the promises made in the 2017 General Election manifesto to leave the Single Market and the Customs Union. Anything short of this fails to respect the referendum result.”
