MP welcomes news that Shelly and Fraser Simmonds have been awarded as UK Points of Light
John Baron MP has today congratulated Shelly and Fraser Simmonds on being awarded by the Prime Minister as the UK’s 1266th and 1267th Points of Light – a daily award issued by the Prime Minister for outstanding voluntary work, in recognition of the huge amount of work that they do for Action Duchenne. Action Duchenne is a charity that is dedicated to supporting those, like Fraser, who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a condition that affects around 2,500 people in the UK, with the vast majority being male. Mutations, or changes, in the dystrophin gene stop the body making a vital muscle protein and over time this causes muscles to weaken and waste away. The condition reduces life expectancy to an average of approximately 30 years and it has no cure.

“Congratulations to Shelly and Fraser on this award. I know they both do a lot of work and fundraising for Action Duchenne and it pleasing to see that the Prime Minister has recognised this effort by awarding them as Points of Light. I am hoping to meet with them again shortly to present them with the award.”
