MP says scheme provides financial security should the worst happen
The Government has announced a new life assurance scheme for frontline health and care workers during the coronavirus pandemic. Families of eligible workers who die from coronavirus during the course of their essential frontline work will receive a payment of £60,000.
John said,
“NHS and care workers are doing a superb job in very difficult circumstances, which often requires them to put themselves in potentially dangerous situations. It is right that the Government recognises this and ensures that, should the worst happen, the next of kin should have some financial security. Meanwhile, the Government will continue to do all it can to ensure the risks to frontline staff are minimised.”
Notes to Editors:
• This scheme will cover full, part-time or locum NHS and public health workers, including GPs, dentists, retired staff and second and final-year students taking up paid frontline roles.
• Within social care, the scheme will cover employees of publicly-funded care homes, home care, directly employed carers including personal assistant and frontline child and family social workers.
• The scheme will be in place for the duration of the pandemic.
• If people are having difficulty obtaining essential supplies, they can register with Essex Coronavirus Action, which is a collaboration between Essex County Council, the Essex Public Health Team and local groups. Their number is 0300 303 9988, open from 8.00am – 8.00pm, seven days a week.
• They can also register with the Community Hub, which is run by Basildon Council and provides support to the elderly and vulnerable at this time. The number is 01268 533 333 (option 1), or e-mail coronavirusresidents@basildon.gov.uk.
