MP says extra support will go a long way

Councils are playing an essential role in responding to the coronavirus outbreak, but are facing financial pressures due to having to run extra services, such as supporting the vulnerable, whilst their usual sources of revenue are reduced or even stopped altogether. The Government has announced £3.2 billion in un-ringfenced funding to support councils – Basildon Council has received three tranches of funding of £100,413, £1,857,115 and £1,957,528 respectively.

John said,

“At this time of national emergency, councils across the country are having to go the extra mile. This, coupled with the curtailment of activities under the lockdown, mean many councils, including our own, are under financial pressure. This extra support from Government, together with councils’ existing reserves, will go a long way to supporting councils at this difficult time.”
