MP says we are taking back control of our trade policy

The UK and Japan have begun negotiations for a free trade agreement, building on the existing EU-Japan agreement but going further in areas such as digital trade and providing support for the UK’s 5.9 million small businesses. UK-Japan trade talks are a stepping stone towards the UK joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, which will help diversify our trade and grow our economy. It is intended that the UK-Japan agreement will enter into force by the end of 2020.

John said,

“I welcome the commencement of trade negotiations with Japan, a country with which we already have a close economic and diplomatic relationship. One of the key reasons for leaving the EU was to regain control of our international trade policy, and the freedom to negotiate agreements such as this confirms that the British people made the right decision in 2016.”
