MP says Government protecting jobs and businesses

The Government has put together an unprecedented level of support to help people and to protect jobs and businesses during this coronavirus outbreak. Across the country, the Coronavirus Jobs Retention Scheme has helped protect nearly 9 million jobs, at a value of £20 billion, benefitting a million businesses. Meanwhile, more than two million self-employed people are receiving support through the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme.

In Basildon & Billericay, figures show that 11,300 jobs have been protected through the Coronavirus Jobs Retention Scheme. In the constituency there are also 4,000 self-employed people benefitting from £13,500,000 of support.

John said,

“During this challenging time for people and businesses, the Government’s schemes have helped to protect the livelihoods of thousands of people, both across the country and in Basildon & Billericay. This will help the country get back on its feet as the virus recedes and the economy gets back on its feet. However, any constituents who require help in navigating the various Government schemes should continue to get in touch with me.”
