MP says it will allow better coordination in foreign affairs

Today the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP, announced that the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office will be merged into the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

John said,

“I welcome the news that the FCO and DFID will be brought together under one roof. It makes sense for these two internationally-focused Departments to be accountable to the Foreign Secretary, allowing for better coordination of Government efforts abroad and helping to prevent situations where DFID and the FCO are working against each other. It is also a welcome fillip for the FCO, which for too long has been in DFID’s shadow given the latter’s much larger budget.”

Notes to Editors:
