MP encourages local schools to make use of funds

The Government has announced a £1 billion catch-up plan to help headteachers to provide extra support to children who have fallen behind whilst out of school. £650 million will be made available to state schools in England over the 2020/21 academic year for initiatives such as small group tuition. An additional £350 million will be made available for high-quality tuition for the most disadvantaged children. These funds are in addition to the Government’s £100 million investment into remote education, including delivering laptops and assisting with internet connexions, and the Government’s £14 billion three-year funding settlement for schools announced last year.

John said,

“One of the greatest costs of the coronavirus outbreak is lost schooling for many children. Whilst the Government is working to reopen schools as soon as possible, it is also taking steps to ensure that children are not left behind. I welcome these substantial extra funds, and encourage our schools to make good use of them.”
