MP says funding paves way for first zero emission long haul flight

This morning the Government announced a £350 million fund to cut emissions in heavy industry and to aid the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. This funding will help to decarbonise heavy industry and the construction, space and transport industries, as part of the Government’s goal of leading the world’s most ambitious environmental programme. The Prime Minister is also today launching the Jet Zero Council, tasked with making net-zero emissions possible for future flights, which brings together representatives from the Government, the environmental sector and the aviation and aerospace industries.

John said,

“The Government is making good progress towards fulfilling its 2050 net zero commitments, and I welcome this further investment in attempts to decarbonise our heavy and carbon-intensive industries. This funding will help support cutting-edge research to reduce both costs and carbon across our industries, and aims to pave the way for the first ever zero emission long-haul passenger flight. This would be a tremendous achievement for British industry and British science.”
