MP says this app helps protect family and friends

The NHS Covid-19 app was launched yesterday. This will help control the spread of the coronavirus by alerting people if they have come into contact with someone who later tests positive for the virus. It also provides risk alerts based on the user’s postcode, allows users to scan QR codes to check in at venues and book coronavirus tests if they have symptoms.

John said,

“The new NHS Covid-19 app is an important tool in our efforts to reduce the spread of the virus, and I would encourage everyone to download this app as soon as possible to help protect themselves, their loved ones and friends.”

Notes to Editors:

• The NHS Covid-19 app is available for both Android and Apple telephones. The app tracks the virus, not people, and uses the latest in data technology to protect privacy.

• No personal data is shared with the Government or NHS, and the app does not hold personal information such as names, addresses or dates of birth.

• Britain’s major mobile network operators, including Vodafone, Three, EE and O2 have confirmed that all in-app activity will not come out of their customers’ data allowance.
