MP says businesses should make use of schemes

As part of the Government’s response to the coronavirus, local restrictions may be required in some areas to slow the spread of the virus which may include closing down local businesses. If this happens and people can not work, the existing Jobs Support Scheme will be extended, covering two-thirds of their usual wages (subject to a cap of £2,100 per month) – employers can top up employee pay if they wish. In addition, businesses forced to close due to national or local restrictions will now also receive up to £3,000 per month. Local authorities will continue to receive discretionary funding to support businesses.

John said,

“As the virus rebounds, the Government will have to take difficult decisions and bring in local restrictions to help slow its spread. When this happens, it is right that extra support is given to those people and businesses affected by these measures, and I encourage businesses to make good use of these schemes if necessary.”
