MP: measures build on £200 billion of support since March

Given the new national restrictions to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the Government has today announced further support for jobs and businesses. This includes extending the furlough scheme still further, now until the end of March 2021. The Job Retention Bonus will not be paid in February, as the extension of the furlough scheme supersedes it, but the Government will redeploy a retention incentive at the appropriate time. As regards the self-employed, the grant covering November to January will increase from 55% to 80% of three months’ average trading profits, up to a cap of £7,500. These measures are in addition to previous announcements.

John said,

“The Government will continue to take bold steps to support jobs and businesses when necessary, and the new national restrictions represent such an occasion. I am pleased the Treasury has moved quickly to adapt the Government’s package of support to the circumstances, which builds on the over £200 billion of support it has made available since March.”
