MP pleased Government made right decision

The Government has unveiled its Winter Support package, which will help ensure that no child goes hungry over the Christmas holidays by providing financial support to local authorities. The Government will provide a £170 million Covid Winter Grant Scheme, and will triple existing funding to up to £220 million for the Holiday Activities and Food programme. In addition, the value of Heathy Start vouchers, which support pregnant women or those with children under four who have a low income and are in receipt of benefits, will be increased. Taken together these funds will enable local authorities to target support where it is needed the most and support families in particularly challenging circumstances due to the coronavirus.

John said,

“I welcome this funding package, which will help ensure no child goes hungry over the Christmas holidays. I am pleased the Government has made the right decision, which many of us on the back benches had been calling for over recent weeks. At a time of national emergency when the Government has spent over £200 billion protecting jobs and businesses, it is right to spend a little extra in these exceptional circumstances to help people over the winter period.”
