MP says sovereignty non-negotiable

Responding to the news that the EU and UK are continuing to negotiate over a possible trade deal, John said,

“A trade deal is for keeps, not just for Christmas. While understanding both sides are going the extra mile, I commend the Prime Minister for not compromising on our sovereignty – something we would regret in the years to come.”

“However, no deal is better than a bad deal. There is no point in signing a bad deal which hands over too much control of our fishing grounds or constrains the future actions of British governments.”

“We trade profitably with much of the world on no deal terms, as does the EU. Unfounded scaremongering by some should not deflect the Government from ensuring that our sovereignty is non-negotiable.”
