John Baron MP welcomes £18.8 million in additional Police funding

MP hails 82 more Police Officers for Essex Police

The Home Secretary, Rt Hon Priti Patel MP, has announced policing will receive up to £15.8 billion in 2021-22, an increase of £636 million on last year. This includes over £400 million to recruit 20,000 extra Police Officers by 2023, in line with the Conservatives’ election manifesto. Essex Police is set to receive an additional £18.8 million as part of this settlement, and has already benefitted from an additional 82 Police Officers. In recognition of the challenges to Police efforts during the pandemic, the Government has provided £30 million to help with coronavirus enforcement and has reimbursed forces for all additional PPE purchased between March and July.

John said,

“Our local Police have done a sterling job this year, keeping our communities safe in often challenging circumstances. I welcome the good news that Essex Police will receive an additional £18.8 million next year, and the 82 extra Police Officers in our area, along with more in the coming years, will make a real contribution to making our streets and communities even safer.”
