John Baron MP highlights coronavirus restrictions

MP welcomes vaccination programme acceleration

Following the emergence of the new coronavirus variant, which is between 50% – 70% more transmissible than previous strains – MPs, including John Baron MP, voted last night to impose new restrictions. People should not leave their homes unless for the limited permitted reasons, and should work from home unless this is absolutely impossible. Those who are clinically extremely vulnerable should resume shielding. In better news, the vaccination programme is accelerating, with over 1.3 million people already vaccinated, including almost a quarter of people over 80. GP surgeries are rolling out the Oxford vaccine from today.

John said,

“This new and significantly more infectious coronavirus variant means that we once again have to lock ourselves down to reduce infection rates and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed. People should stay at home unless absolutely necessary, and I am confident that the vast majority will keep to these new rules.”

“I also welcome the acceleration of the vaccination programme, which is our route out of this pandemic. It is good news that well over a million people have already been jabbed, and the NHS is working flat-out with the aim of vaccinating the four highest-priority groups by the middle of February. This should give a good level of protection to those most at risk from the virus, and thereby reduce the pressure on the NHS and the need for ongoing restrictions.”
