MP says people must obey rules

The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, has warned that the country is facing our most serious moment yet in the coronavirus pandemic. The NHS is operating under enormous pressure, and if the virus spreads on its current trajectory many hospitals will be in great difficulties. NHS staff are doing their best, but there are limits. In order to drive numbers down, we must all obey the rules and stay at home. Every unnecessary interaction could be a link in a chain of transmission which has a vulnerable person at the end.

John said,

“The NHS is under severe pressure due to covid-19, including in Essex, and I encourage everyone to heed the CMO’s warning. It has never been more important that people stay at home and obey the rules, especially since we are facing a variant strain which is between 50% – 70% more infectious than before. We must drive down infection numbers and thereby relieve the pressure on our health service and its staff.”

“In better news, the Government has announced the opening of the first seven NHS Vaccination Centres. These, together with other sites coming online soon, will help to accelerate the rollout of the vaccination programme which is our route out of the pandemic. I would encourage everyone to accept the vaccine when it is offered to them.”
