MP: Successful application will support and create high-value jobs

The UK has applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a trading partnership which accounts for £9 trillion of trade and which provides access to some of the fastest-growing markets in the world, including Mexico, Malaysia and Vietnam. This application shows Britain’s strong commitment to global free trade, and has the potential to bring huge economic benefits.

John said,

“I welcome this application to the CPTPP, a market of over 500 million people and which generates 13% of the world’s income. Joining this fast-growing free trade area will support and create high-value jobs across the UK, but without having to cede wide control over our internal affairs as with EU membership. It is fitting that this formal application is launched one year after we left the EU and regained the ability to run our own independent international trade policy.”
