MP: Government will continue to support councils

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, the Government has given councils over £7 billion in additional support, with £3 billion more confirmed for next year. As part of this, Essex local authorities have received £240 million, and across the East of England the figure is £803 million. Over half of this funding has not been ring-fenced, so local authorities can decide how to use these additional funds and into which local services to increase investment. These could include counselling services, delivering essential supplies to vulnerable families and ensuring green spaces are well-maintained and covid-secure.

John said,

“I welcome this welcome funding boost for our Essex local authorities. The Government will continue to support councils during these challenging times, and I once again thank councillors and council staff for their efforts.”
