MP says this will accelerate efforts to cut emissions
The Government has announced that a new and greener fuel will be introduced at petrol stations across the UK, helping us to reach our efforts to reach ‘net zero’ emissions by 2050. The E10 fuel, which is an eco-friendly blend of ethanol and petrol, will be rolled out in September, and it is estimated it could cut carbon emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year – the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road. This switch will also boost employment in the north east, where much of the bioethanol is produced.
John said,
“I welcome the introduction of the E10 fuel, which will accelerate our efforts to cut emissions from our roads and move towards a greener transport system. It is a good example of how innovative technology can reduce carbon emissions, and I look forward to the wide rollout of this new fuel.”
Notes to Editors:
• A small number of older vehicles, including classic cars and some made in the early 2000s, will continue to need E5 fuel. Supplies of E5 will be maintained in the ‘super’ grade.
