MP: There is light at the end of the tunnel
This afternoon there will be votes in the House of Commons to continue the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020, which require such a vote every six months, as well as other coronavirus-related measures in line with the Government’s roadmap out of the pandemic.
John said,
“The last year has been hard for everyone, but the emergency legislation passed last year has enabled the Government to respond appropriately to the situation – such as by enabling recently-retired doctors and nurses to return to the NHS and by allowing the Treasury to provide financial support for businesses and jobs. Some parts of the Coronavirus Act are not being renewed, as they are no longer necessary, which confirms that the Government is not keeping these powers for its own sake.”
“The restrictions are difficult for everyone, but with the very successful vaccination programme and the roadmap there is truly light at the end of the tunnel. As long as indicators remain on track we will progressively re-open our economy and society in the coming weeks, and like everyone else I am working towards 21st June.”
