MP: Second doses important

Yesterday the Prime Minister confirmed in his statement that the coronavirus data will enable Step Two of the roadmap to proceed as forecast. From 12th April shops, gyms, zoos, holiday campsites, personal care services (such as barbers) and beer gardens and outdoor hospitality can reopen. The Prime Minister also urged people to use the free rapid NHS tests, even if you do not feel ill, which are available from local pharmacies and which will be able to be ordered for home delivery from gov.uk. Those with coronavirus symptoms should still self-isolate and get a normal PCR test. The Prime Minister also reiterated the importance of receiving vaccines, including second doses, when your turn comes.

John said,

“It is excellent news that the country is proceeding to timetable with the coronavirus roadmap. From next Monday Step Two will see the reopening of non-essential retail, barbers and pub gardens, which we have all been looking forward to for many months. However, I encourage everyone to remember ‘hands, face, space and fresh air’, and to make use of the free rapid tests even if you do not feel ill.”

“I also urge everyone to have their jab when their turn comes, and it is essential that everyone also has their second dose. Despite the vaccine supply issues I have been assured that second doses will not be affected, and everyone should come forward to ensure they are fully protected.”

Notes to Editors:

• If a person had their first dose at a primary care network centre/GP practice, they will be contacted by their GP/primary care network with a date for their second jab. This may happen a week before the due date, so people should not be concerned if they have not yet heard. In addition, many people will have been given the second appointment date when they received their first jab.

• If a person had their first dose at a large vaccination centre, they can book their second dose (if they didn’t when they received their first dose) via the National Booking System (online) or by calling 119.
