MP: National recruitment drive ahead of schedule

The most recent figures show that nearly 9,000 Police officers have been recruited nationwide as part of the Government’s manifesto pledge to recruit an additional 20,000 by March 2023. This means the target for the first year of the recruitment push – to recruit 6,000 officers by March 2021 – has been greatly exceeded, with nearly 45% of the 20,000 already recruited. As part of these efforts, Essex Police has gained an extra 177 officers, bringing our local Police strength up to 3,493 officers.

John said,

“It is excellent news that the national Police recruitment drive is ahead of schedule. These extra 177 Police officers in our area will help reassure residents, keep streets safe, bear down on crime and deter criminals. Together with the recent legislation to get tougher with the worst offenders, the Government is taking strong steps to stand up for the law-abiding majority.”

“As ever, I give the Police my full support and thanks for the superb work they do to keep our community safe.”
