MP: Essex has received nearly £10 million since December

During the pandemic the Government has provided an extensive package of support for individuals and businesses. This has included the Covid Local Support Grant, previously known at the Covid Winter Grant Scheme, which has enabled Local Authorities in England to support families struggling with the cost of food and utility bills. Since it began on 1st December 2020, this has totalled over £269 million, with almost 6.3 million awards between 1st December and 16th April.

The Covid Local Support Grant arrangements will be extended for a final time up to 30th September with a further investment of £160 million. This will bring the period of support beyond the planning ending of coronavirus restrictions to help families get back on their feet. Essex’s allocation amounts to £3,612,283, bringing its total amount of support under this scheme to £9,687,690.

John said,

“I welcome this substantial extra amount of support to help local families with the costs of food and utilities. It is right that the support period extends beyond the ending of coronavirus restrictions next month, to provide a safety net as people get back on their feet. These funds are also in addition to the £220 million Holiday Activities and Food programme, which will cover all of England across the major school holidays this year.”
