MP: Government was wrong to force a vote on Committee’s report yesterday
Owen Paterson has announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament. Yesterday John Baron MP defied a three-line whip and did not vote for the establishment of a new system to oversee Parliamentary standards.
John said,
“Given the circumstances, resignation is the right thing to do. The Government was very wrong yesterday to try to introduce proposals to establish a new system at this point. I could not support the idea, and so abstained, believing that Parliament should stick to the usual practice of endorsing reports of the Committee of Standards without a vote. The Government U-Turn this morning recognised as much.”
