MP cautions against false security of covid passes
Today in the House of Commons, John Baron will vote in favour of the measures on mask-wearing, daily testing to avoid isolation if fully-jabbed and mandatory vaccinations for frontline NHS workers and staff, but will vote against covid passes.
John said,
“I will vote in favour of sensible and reasonable measures, such as mask-wearing, daily testing to avoid isolation and mandatory vaccinations for frontline NHS workers and staff, but will vote against ‘vaccine passports’.”
“This is because the use of ‘passports’ elsewhere in the UK led to no discernible effect, but also because they risk giving a false sense of security given people could have received their second jab many months ago and therefore their potential for transmission may no longer be significantly dented.”
“A much better measure would be a requirement for a negative lateral flow test – these are free, give results in minutes and are much better indicators that someone is not infectious.”
