MP says present generation should be heard

Last night the Government was debating the EU Bill which ensures that if there is any further proposed handover of power from this country to Brussels, the Government will have to seek the British people’s consent in a national referendum.  A Conservative backbench amendment was tabled which stated that the British people should also be offered a referendum on continued membership of the EU. John supported this amendment, but it was defeated by 295 to 26.

John said afterwards:

“I support the Government’s EU Bill which attempts to stop the continued salami-slicing of our sovereignty. But whether one agrees with our continued membership or not, I also believe the present generation should be heard as to whether they want to remain in the EU.”
