MP will discuss detailed proposals

Today in the House of Commons during Oral Questions to the Department for Energy and Climate Change, John Baron MP raised the importance of how cheapest tariff information is to be set out on domestic bills to help consumers save money – in advance of the forthcoming Energy Bill which will soon be before Parliament.

John said:

“The Minister recognises the importance of this issue given the recent price increases and the confusion caused by hundreds of different tariffs. Having submitted detailed proposals as to how cheapest tariff information could be displayed on domestic bills to help consumers save money, in consultation with the consumer magazine Which?, will he meet with me to discuss this issue?”

The Minister said John was one of the foremost experts on this issue in the House and that he would meet with him.

John said afterwards:

“Energy companies print too much useless information on bills. What consumers want to know is: are they on that company’s cheapest standard tariff, and if not, how much they would save if they were to switch. Such clarity would help all households, but especially the 4 million people who live in fuel poverty.”
