MP is pressing for the ‘big decision’

Today in PMQs John Baron MP raised the issue of the travellers at the illegal Dale Farm site.

John said:

“The law courts have agreed with Basildon Council that the illegal Dale Farm traveller site should be cleared. But because the previous Government stopped the Council taking action, the site has mushroomed in size. Will he meet with me to discuss Government assistance to ensure justice is done?”

The Prime Minister replied by sympathising with the plight of local residents saying there should not be one rule for some sections of society and another rule for others, and he would arrange a meeting with the Secretary of State for Local Government.

John said afterwards:

“The Department for Communities and Local Government has already confirmed that they cannot help, but we are awaiting a decision from the Home Office when it comes to policing. This situation requires a big picture decision soon as time is ticking on. I am therefore pressing the Prime Minister for that decision.”
