MP’s EDM attracts over 100 MP’s signatures

Frustrated by the extremely slow progress in securing promised Government studies on nuclear test veterans and their families, John Baron MP last week stepped up pressure on the Government by tabling Early Day Motion [EDM] 266 entitled ‘Nuclear Test Veterans’. This campaign has been supported by the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association [BNTVA], and the EDM is cross party.

John said:

“We have led a long campaign in Parliament to try and ensure our nuclear test veterans and their families are treated fairly by the Government. This campaign has involved our cross-party inquiry, my debate in the House of Commons, numerous Parliamentary Questions, letters and meetings with Ministers, MOD officials and the BNTVA amongst others.”

“I was delighted when the Government agreed to carry out two studies on the veterans themselves and their offspring. But this promise was made up to a year ago and since then there has been very little progress.”

“This is why I have tabled EDM 266 calling for the Government to get its act together. It has already gained over 100 MP’s signatures from across the political parties, and I hope this will give further momentum to our campaign to ensure this country’s debt of honour to these veterans is honoured”

John has been keen to keep this a cross party campaign and so his EDM has been co-sponsored by Rt. Hon. Frank Field MP [Labour], Rt. Hon. Malcolm Rifkind MP [Conservative], Bob Russell MP [Liberal], Richard Taylor MP [Independent] and Hywel Williams MP [Plaid Cymru]
