Record numbers enjoy family event
Yesterday the tenth annual Fun Walk at Barleylands Farm saw a record number of walkers raising money for 90 charities and local causes [the attachment shows the complete list]. The event started at midday with a grand BBQ courtesy of ‘Team Handsome’, and live music by Joanna Power. There was also a barn full of stalls and Jim Shrubb, the Billericay Town Crier, helped to chivvy things along. The Walk itself started at 1.00pm.

“It was a fantastic day with a record number of walkers and good causes participating. The BBQ, live music and barn full of stalls all added to the atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed themselves.”
“I would like to thank the Fun Walk Committee, family and friends – including ‘Team Handsome’ – the marshals and all involved, for ensuring its success. From a standing start in 2002 the team has done brilliantly to get this Fun Walk to the point where it is helping over 90 charities and good causes and raising record sums of money.”
“One of the Walk’s unique features is the bonus pot. This year’s bonus smashed all records and my thanks go to Hallmark Healthcare, Veolia Environmental Services, Swan Housing, Toomey Motors, Bellway Homes, Selex Galileo, Stock Brook Country Club, Ford Motor Company, Messrs Ken Kent, Steve Foster, Barrie Stone and others.”
Notes to Editors
1) Last year, 59 charities and local causes participated and raised a total of £50,000
2) The ‘bonus pot is distributed on a pro rata basis to each of the charities depending on, and in addition to, the money they raise themselves in sponsorship.
