MP encourages residents to use service

This week John Baron MP has received news that Essex County Council will now provide grant funding to Basildon District Volunteer Carers [BDVC] to ‘kickstart’ the trial of a new ‘shopper bus’ service providing three journeys each way per week between Afflets Court and Basildon Bus Station. This is after Stevensons, the local bus company, said they had to withdraw the service through lack of demand and so John lobbied Essex County Council to see what could be done to help local residents.

John said:

“My thanks to Essex County Council and BDVC for stepping up to the plate and providing this service three days a week. But it is only a trial service so I encourage local residents to use it or lose it, once it is up and running.”

“I will help publicise the timetable and start date of the trial nearer the launch.”

Notes to Editors

  • The timetable and start date of the trial has yet to be finalised, but these details will be publicised prior to the launch.

  • Specific questions from the public about the service will be best answered in the first instance by BDVC themselves on 01268 294235.
