MP highlights NATO discord

Today John Baron MP highlighted a recent statement by the French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet who has said that there is no solution through force and that we should now sit around the table with all sides.

 John said:

“The French Defence Minister’s statement represents a major U-turn. It is significant because British diplomats continue to insist that Britain sees no future in Libya with Gaddafi in power. It appears NATO’s strategy is in disarray.”

“Furthermore, recent news that the French are arming the rebels is clear evidence that the UN Mandate has been exceeded. NATO has confirmed that such action would be beyond its remit. The arms embargo in Libya no longer exists.”

“In what has become the longest assassination attempt in history, we now need a peace process which involves a ceasefire and negotiations with no pre-conditions – especially regime change.”
