MP says there are no guiding principles for any future interventions

Today in the House of Commons the Prime Minister made a Statement about Libya, during which John Baron MP questioned him about possible future interventions.

 John said:

“What does the Prime Minister believe are the lessons from this intervention when it comes to possible future interventions, given the Arab League contained members like Syria and the UK did not assist the citizens of Bahrain and the Yemen?”

The Prime Minister responded by saying that we should conduct such interventions when they are warranted and provided we are able.

John responded:

“This intervention was supposedly a humanitarian mission yet we ignored the similar plight of citizens in other smaller countries. Given our poor track record of intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is worrying that we lack any clear guiding principles for possible future interventions.”
