MP also thanks local residents for their support

John Baron MP has tabled an Early Day Motion [EDM] for other MPs to sign congratulating Basildon Council, the bailiffs, Essex Police and others on their professionalism whilst clearing the illegal Dale Farm traveller site. The EDM also thanks local residents for their support.

 John said:

“The Council, Essex Police and all others involved in clearing this illegal traveller site did an exceptionally good job. They showed complete professionalism, in spite of intense provocation at times. This Parliamentary Motion marks this.”

“It also allows us to thank local residents for their support during this process. It took longer than we all would have liked, but local residents never wavered in their trust and support.”

“Bishops, actresses, protestors, travellers and others all quoted human rights against us. They forget that we all have human rights – not just minorities. These include an expectation that the law will be applied fairly and equitably, without exception.”

 Notes to Editors

EDM 2445 states: “That this House pays tribute to and congratulates Basildon Council, the bailiffs, the police and all other emergency services and agencies on their professionalism whilst clearing the illegal Dale Farm Traveller site, in spite of the extreme provocation and violence from those resisting the operation; thanks local residents for their support for the Council in upholding the law; and acknowledges that the human rights of the law-abiding majority include an expectation that the law is applied fairly and equitably without exception.”

EDMs are mechanisms which highlight a particular issue and give MPs an opportunity to show their support by signing it.
