MP warns of risk of losing valuable service
On Friday PM, John Baron MP visited Basildon Mind at Whitmore Way Basildon, to meet the team and discuss funding concerns. The organisation has been providing services for people in mental distress in the District for over 40 years. These include supported housing, a day centre, formal advocacy benefits advice, and a telephone helpline. Whilst visiting John chatted with the team and also young Billy Ross who donated his pocket money savings to Basildon Mind.
John said:
“Basildon Mind provides a very valuable service to the community for both adults and children. However, there are funding concerns which need to be addressed otherwise we could lose this service, and we need to do so with some urgency.”
“Mental health has for too long been the Cinderella of the NHS. This must change. Organisations like Basildon Mind are helping us to do just that.”
Sheila Chesney, Chief Executive of Basildon Mind said:
“Your Mental Health matters and we mind. We can make a difference with your support.”
