MP presents Fun Walk cheque to school team
John Baron MP welcomed students and teachers from James Hornsby’s ‘Rocket Team’ to Parliament where he congratulated them on their recent success and presented a cheque for £250 from the Fun Walk Trust to help with next year’s competition.
The team won the UK leg of the National Rocketery Competition before proceeding to the International Rocketery Fly-Off competition at the Paris Airshow, where they came second. Joe Cox 13, Tyler Sharp 14, David Thai 14, Hollie Wollaston 14 and Hannah Platts 14, led by their Science Teacher Matt Piggott, spent five months designing, constructing and testing their rocket. The initiative had the full backing of Headteacher Jason Carey. The team will be entering the competition again next year.
John said,
“It was great to welcome James Hornsby’s ‘Rocket Team’ to Parliament and to once again congratulate them on their tremendous achievement. The Fun Walk Trust is proud to hand over £250 to go towards their ‘rocketry’ efforts next year”
“Science is a great subject and early indications are that the school’s achievements have sparked greater interest in the subject. This is welcome news”
Matt Piggott said,
“The students had a fantastic day at the House of Commons and were very grateful for the hospitality & generosity shown by John Baron MP and his staff. The students are raring to go once again on this year’s rocketry competition and are hoping to continue to inspire the younger students around them and pass on their expertise to the next crop of James Hornsby School rocketeers.”
“Science has become somewhat a specialism at James Hornsby School and the students are thriving at the STEM opportunities provided for them, and hopefully we can have similar successes this upcoming year. ”
