MP chases request for meeting on behalf of Colleagues
At Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons this afternoon, John Baron MP asked the Prime Minister about Parliamentary sovereignty against the background of the EU negotiations.
In the Chamber, John asked,
“The Prime Minister will be aware a number of Colleagues and I are awaiting a response to our request last November for a meeting with him regarding the EU negotiations, to discuss the importance of this Parliament, acting alone if necessary, being able to stop any unwanted EU directives, taxes or regulation. Will he now meet us before the next EU meeting?”
The Prime Minister responded that he was having many meetings about his EU negotiations, but did not commit to a meeting as requested.
Afterwards, John said,
“Issues such as control of our borders, business regulation and the primacy of our laws all depend on our Parliament being sovereign. This issue goes to the heart of our relationship with the EU, and it is unfortunate the Prime Minister is unwilling to meet us to discuss this crucial aspect of the negotiations.”
