MP listens to constituents’ concerns about Climate Change
John Baron MP met with Jacqui Stringer from the Women’s Institute last week in Westminster Hall to hear their concerns about Climate Change. Jacqui visited Parliament as part of the mass ‘The Time is Now’ lobby organised by The Climate Coalition.
John said:
“It was good to meet with Jacqui to discuss Climate Change and how we are doing our bit to enable the UK to reach a ‘Net Zero’ economy by 2050. The UK is leading the way on this issue – since 2000, no other major industrialised country has done more than the UK to reduce carbon dioxide intensity – the measure of carbon for each pound of GDP. However, there is still more to do and we have promised to keep in touch.”
Jacqui said:
“The WI has a long history of campaigning on important issues but never on the scale of climate change before. It was great to voice our concerns to John Baron and to hear what the Government has been doing, however, the focus of the mass lobby is to call on the UK Government to take even more of a global lead in tackling the climate and environmental emergency, we need far bigger and bolder actions before it’s too late, ‘The Time is Now’. May Flowers WI will certainly be keeping in touch with John in the future to hear what action he has been taking.”
