MP says science shows masks help slow virus spread
Later today the Secretary of State for Health, Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, will announce that the wearing of facemasks in shops and supermarkets will become mandatory from 24th July. This is in response to better scientific knowledge of the coronavirus, which suggests there is evidence that wearing a mask in an enclosed space helps to stop its spread. From 24th July, the law will require people to wear masks in shops, with the Police empowered to issue fines of up to £100 for non-compliance.
John said,
“As scientists study the coronavirus, we learn more about it including how best to stop it. Whilst the science was previously inconclusive, there is now a body of evidence to suggest that mask-wearing is beneficial and the Government is rightly changing the rules as a result. I strongly encourage everyone to comply with this change, which is not a big imposition and which could make a real difference in keeping the coronavirus under control.”
