MP says public sector workers make key contribution
The Government has today announced that almost 900,000 public sector workers will receive above-inflation pay rises, the majority for the third year in a row. Doctors and dentists will receive a pay rise of 2.8%, benefitting around 69,000 employees. Teachers will receive the largest pay rise at 3.1%, with the average classroom teacher receiving an increase of £1,250. Police Officers will receive a 2.5% increase in pay, with constables earning up to £1,002 more this year. Prison officers will receive a 2.5% pay rise, and members of the Armed Forces will receive a 2% rise.
John said,
“We are all aware of the huge contribution that public sector workers make to our country and to our communities. I am pleased that with these pay rises the Government is underlining its commitment to healthcare workers, the Police and members of the Armed Forces, amongst others, and would like to thank all of them for their dedication, hard work and determination on our behalf.”
