MP: Residents made good use of the scheme
Last month the Government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme encouraged people to support their local businesses as the country emerges from the coronavirus lockdown. Nationally 84,700 establishments signed up to the scheme, and more than 100 million meals were claimed. In Basildon & Billericay 64 businesses signed up, serving 63,000 discounted meals and generating a total discount of £259,000, with an average discount per meal of £4.11.
John said,
“The coronavirus pandemic has hit the hospitality sector hard, and Eat Out to Help Out was an innovative and helpful scheme to support this industry, building on the temporary 5% discount to VAT until 12th January 2021. It is clear that residents made the most of the scheme, and I hope they will continue to support our local businesses in line with Government guidelines.”
