MP says Government will ensure NHS receives what it needs
Following through on the Conservative General Election Manifesto, the Prime Minister has confirmed the 40 hospitals which will be built by 2030, backed by £3.7 billion, with bids invited for eight further new schemes. This follows on from delivering the largest cast boost in history for the NHS, investing an additional £33.9 billion in frontline NHS services every year by 2023/4. In addition, to protect Accident & Emergency departments, £450 million has already been announced for 142 A&E upgrades ahead of winter, to improve infection control and increase capacity. In the last budget, £5.4 billion was earmarked to support the recruitment, retraining and retaining of 50,000 more nurses – there are already 13,100 more nurses working in the NHS compared to last year, as well as over 9,200 doctors. Finally, 20 hospitals are receiving a share of £850 million to upgrade outdated facilities and equipment.
John said,
“I welcome this announcement from the Prime Minister, which is making good on one of our key manifesto pledges last December. These modern and cutting-edge hospitals will help deliver the world-class health service we all know and appreciate, and the Government will continue to ensure the NHS receives the resources it requires, including more money, doctors, nurses and equipment.”
