MP supports Government’s commitment to sustainable fishing
The Government has announced the signing of a fisheries agreement with the Faroes Islands. This is the second fisheries framework agreement since the UK left the EU following the signing of an equivalent agreement with Norway last month. The UK-Faroes Agreement commits to annual negotiations on access and fishing opportunities. The overarching objective of the agreement is cooperation to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.
John said,
“This agreement shows that the UK is successfully negotiating fishing agreements with other nations outside the EU and shows what can be done as an independent nation. Helping our fishing industry should be one of the key benefits of our leaving the EU provided we stand firm in the negotiations. I particularly welcome the Government’s commitment to the conservation and maintenance of fishing stocks.”
