MP encourages care homes to find safe ways of maintaining contact
The Government has published new guidance to make it possible for social care providers to receive visits from family and friends in a covid-secure way, enabling care homes to identify innovative ways to allow families to reunite in the safest way possible. These aim to strike a balance between the benefits of visits and the risk of transmission of the virus to social care staff and residents. The Government is also trialling testing for visitors, in order to reduce the risk of indoor visits and give families more opportunities to spend time with relatives in care homes.
John said,
“The lockdown earlier this year was very hard on care home residents and their families alike, as necessary measures were taken to reduce the risk of the coronavirus spreading which inevitably led to reduced contact. As we go into another period of national restrictions, I hope care homes and relatives draw upon this updated guidance to find new ways of keeping care home residents in contact with their families as much as possible.”
